Computing

‘Alan Turing gave us a mathematical model of digital computing that has completely withstood the test of time. He gave us a very, very clear description that was truly prophetic.’ George Dyson
Subject Intent

At St John’s Church of England Academy we understand that a high-quality computing education is essential for pupils to understand computing technologies, and for them to use these skills to become responsible, competent, confident and creative participants of an increasingly digital world.

Our Computing Curriculum ensures that children are aware of the advantages and disadvantages of living in the Forest of Dean equipping them with the digital skills and knowledge they need for today’s society.

Curriculum Drivers
Through the delivery of our curriculum, we want our children to be ready for life beyond St John's Church of England Academy.

We aspire for them to be:
Articulate
Aspirational
Curious
Appreciative
By teaching Computing we aim:
  • to inspire pupils to continue to learn and apply the skills they learn at secondary school, university, and beyond in the workplace.
As a computer user we want our children...
To be able to connect with others safely and respectfully.
To develop their ability in communicating ideas by using applications and devices throughout the curriculum.
To collect, organise and manipulate data effectively.
To develop competence in coding for a variety of practical and inventive purposes.
Impact

The impact and measure of our computing curriculum is to ensure that children at St John’s Church of England Academy are equipped with the skills and knowledge that will enable them to be ready for the curriculum at Key Stage 3 and for life as an adult in the wider world.
