Sports Premium

Every state funded primary school and academy in the country with primary aged pupils receives additional funding for sports from an overall allocation of £150m per year.  The funding is ring-fenced for sport and physical education.  The government believes that schools are best placed to decide how best to spend their funding.

At St John’s we believe that the funding should be used to encourage participation in a wide variety of sports, both traditional and ‘new’.  We will also be using the funding to promote healthy living with a link to exercise.  Children at St John’s participate in a wide variety of competitive sports.  This includes football, netball and cricket matches and tournaments against local schools.

St John’s C of E Academy is a member of the local school sports cluster which is led by staff from Dene Magna School and also of the Youth Sports Trust.  A number of after-school sports clubs are organised for pupils including football, netball and handball.  Community links are being forged between St John’s and local sports clubs.

At St John's we are proud of our achievements and inclusive provision in sport and physical education.
